Human fetal EEG monitoring may be performed continuously during the birth process. As an example, the brain wave changes following the use of drugs are illustrated. The results show that the fetal EEG provides a relatively unused and sensitive laboratory test for studying the fetus and may provide additional information in such areas as drug transfer across the placenta and the relationship between brain damage and birth.
