Sodium Sparing Effect of Alanine in Fasting Obese Females

Abstract

In obese females, 50 g of alanine given orally on the fifth the day of fasting, produced a decrease in urinary sodium that persisted the following day. Plasma renin did not increase the day following alanine intake.
