Abstract

The early parathyroid hormone-stimulated shift of calcium from plasma into bone was investigated in magnesium-deficient rats on diets of normal and low-calcium content. The shift was not significantly inhibited in either group of magnesium-deficient rats, and it is concluded that the breakdown in calcium homeostasis during magnesium deficiency is not due to impairment of this primary action of parathyroid hormone.
