Abstract
14C glucose incorporation, as studied in 20 1/2 and 21 1/2 day old rat fetuses after a glucose 14C injection into the mother, is increased by insulin whereas it is depressed by anti-insulin serum injection into the fetus. The data suggest that rat fetal tissues are already insulin sensitive at the end of the gestation and that fetal insulin itself plays a role in the control of materno-fetal transfer of glucose.
