Abstract
The effects of insulin and glucose on lipolysis were studied in human isolated fat cells. It was observed that insulin alone inhibited only an increased lipolysis and had no effect on a normal basal lipolysis. Glucose alone did not influence lipolysis whether proceeding at a normal basal or at an increased rate. The insulin effect on the lipolysis was not altered essentially by glucose. The suggestion was put forward to differentiate between basal rates of lipolysis, which are insensitive to insulin, and high rates of lipolysis, which respond to insulin, and that this is not influenced by the presence of glucose.
