Abstract
The distribution of potassium and sodium in the pancreas, skeletal muscle and liver, blood sugar and insulin concentrations of the plasma and the pancreas were studied in rats with potassium deficiency. Under this condition a decrease of potassium and an increase of sodium in the intracellular fluid of the pancreas occurred. The total insulin content of the pancreas was not altered. However, glucose-induced increase of plasma insulin was reduced in potassium deficient rats while the degree of hyperglycemia was not significantly changed.
