Abstract

The leukocyte migration inhibition test (L.M.T.) is considered by most authors as specific for cell mediated immune reactions. In the present work, it has been studied in 29 patients with various thyroid diseases and 47 normal blood donors. The results demonstrate the clear association between cell mediated immune reactions against thyroglobulin (L.M.T. and L.T.T.) and the presence in the serum but not the titre of thyroglobulin antibodies. The findings suggest the synergy of the cellular and humoral responses in the pathogenesis not only of Hashimoto's struma lymphomatosa, but also in all the other forms of autoimmune thyroiditis.
