Turnover of Phospholipid During Ontogenesis:
P32 Incorporation into Thyroid Slices

Abstract
The incorporation of P32 into phospholipid of thyroid gland of neonatal rats was studied. Slices of rat thyroid took up P32 from the Krebs-Ringer bicarbonate buffer during 3 hours of incubation. The incorporation of P32 into phospholipid was high on the first day of life and decreased during the 7th-30th days. By contrast, the specific radioactivity of phospholipid increased during the postnatal period as a consequence of native changes of phosphorus in phospholipid in the thyroid. TSH added in vitro did not significantly alter the accumulation of P32. These results suggest an increase of phospholipid turnover in thyroid during postnatal life and possible release of TSH from the pituitary which directs this metabolism.
