Adrenocortical responsiveness was assessed in ten asthmatic patients treated with corticosteroids for at least one year. After an acute treatment with tetracosactrin (0.25 mg every six hours for two days), both the adrenocortical responses to physiological-like amounts of β1-24ACTH and the capacity of maximal response were significantly increased. However, the adrenocortical sensitivity remained altered.
