Abstract

Complete normalization of the elevated fasting serum growth hormone and the abnormally high serum growth hormone response to exercise was obtained after a period of exceedingly strict metabolic control in five newly diagnosed male juvenile diabetics. The glomerular filtration rate, which also was elevated in the juvenile diabetics, decreased simultaneously to nearly normal levels. It is concluded that the abnormalities in serum growth hormone and glomerular filtration rate are of metabolic origin and it is suggested that the high serum growth hormone level is responsible for the high glomerular filtration rate found in these patients.
