Summary
Depression in female is associated with chronicity. The presence of an alcoholic father reliably predicts against long-term illnesses. Subsequent episodes of depression are more frequent in the male depressive particularly as aging occurs. These data are relevant to a theory of 2 types of depressive illness, depression spectrum disease and pure depressive disease.
