Abstract
Using the method of corticosteroid binding protein for measuring corticosterone in rat plasma, we have measured the biological activity of ACTH after intravenous injections in hypophysectomized rats. This bioassay has sensitivity, specificity and reproducibility comparable to those using different methods for measuring blood corticosterone. Only 0.02 ml of plasma is needed. The lower limit of sensitivity is 0.2 mU of ACTH, but the accuracy is maximal between 1 and 4 mU.
