Abstract

Extract of rat muscle tissue was shown to stimulate the incorporation of labelled sulphate into embryonic chick cartilage. This stimulatory activity could still be demonstrated in the presence of optimal concentrations of amino acids in the incubation medium. After passage of the muscle extract through Sephadex the biological activity was found in a low molecular weight fraction. The addition of human growth hormone to rat muscle in vitro increased the stimulating activity of the extract.
