Abstract
The methanolic fraction of the galls of Quercus infectoria exhibited interesting neuropharmacological activity in laboratory animals. Chemical characterization of the CNS active component was undertaken. Based on IR and m.p. criteria, the isolated substance has been identified as syringic acid.
The neuropharmacology of isolated and pure syringic acid was studied and the data presented suggest significant local anaesthetic and sedative activity of the compound.
