Alkaloids of Rauwolfia mombasiana Stem Bark

Abstract

From the stem bark of Rauwolfia mombasiana 16 indole alkaloids were isolated and 14 characterised. The alkaloids comprised E–seco indole, sarpagan, dihydroindole, heteroyohimbine, yohimbine and 18–hydroxy–yohimbine ester types. The probable bio–synthetic relationship of the alkaloids is discussed.
