Abstract
The fresh leaves of Cassia senna (Senna) and of Rhamnus frangula contain only anthrone glycosides. By drying between 20° C and 50° C these anthronic derivatives are transformed into dianthrone forms (sennosides) in senna; in frangula however the anthrone forms are stable (glucofrangularosides). By raising the drying temperature from 50° C tot 100° C the content of total anthracene derivatives decreases progressively in senna; in frangula a glucose molecule is splitted off and mostly frangularoside is formed. These transformations are due to enzyme actions.
