Abstract

The species Asarum europaeum L. exist in four populations the essential oil composition of which is clearly differentiated. It is the first time that the various growing areals of these populations are reported. A botanic-taxonomic differentiation of these plants is not justified. The chromosome number of all Asarum plants which were researched was determined to 2n = 26. Therefore it can be taken for granted that these four populations are not chromosome races.

Factors of the microclimate have no decisive influence on the oil composition. Moreover the seasonal changes and the variations of different drying conditions were excluded. So the demands are fulfilled to differentiate in the future between the following chemical races:

  • Asarum europaeum L. chemovar. trans–Isoasaron

  • Asarum europaeum L. chemovar.trans–Isoeugenolmethylether

  • Asarum europaeum L. chemovar. trans–Isoelemicin

  • Asarum europaeum L. chemovar. Eudesmol.
