Abstract
The roots of Rauwolfia cambodiana yielded the indole alkaloids ajmaline, aricine, isoreserpiline, pelirine, reserpiline and reserpine. The principal alkaloid was isoreserpiline. The alkaloid pattern differed from that of R. verticillata but was similar to the alkaloid pattern of R. perakensis, a species with which R. cambodiana may be synonymous. The occurrence of alkaloids in the six S. E. Asian Rauwolfia species could not be related to Pichon's classification of the genus.
