Abstract

In addition to the alkaloids ajmaline, alstonine, deserpidine, methyl reserpate, 12–methoxyajmaline, rescinnamine, α-yohimbine, and vomalidine, five further alkaloids have been reported. Norajmaline, rauvomitine, tetrahydroalstonine, tetraphyllicine and ajmaline 17–0–(3', 4', 5' )–trimethoxybenzoate have been isolated and identified. The occurrence of these alkaloids is discussed with reference to current biogenetic theories.
