Abstract
Seven alkaloids have been isolated from the root and stem bark of the African tree Araliopsis tabouensis. The major base has again been found to be N–methyl-platy'desminium ion and the minor alkaloids have been identified, by physical and chemical analysis, as the furoquinolines, skimmianine, halfordinine and isoplatydesmine, the pyranoquinoline ribalinine and the indoloquinazolines evodiamine and rhetsinine. The biogenetic and chemotaxonomic significance of these alkaloids is discussed.
