Abstract
The silicon level was determined in leaves, stem and root of Urtica dioica L. during its growth and the kinetics of extraction of molybdate-reactive silicon species from leaves was studied at 20, 50 and 90° C. A rapid extraction was observed at 90 and 50° C. The extent of extraction did not exceed 50 per cent of the total silicon with both the fresh and dry leaves. The balance of silicon in the extraction was made and optimum conditions were established for the extraction of molybdate-reactive silicon species from leaves.
