Abstract

Nitrous acid acting on conidia enabled to gain a less mutant of an ergotoxine strain of Claviceps purpurea. In this mutant the ability of the sphacelial growth as well as of conidiation was lost. Only thick-walled large sclerotial cells with a high lipid content were formed. The quality and quantity of the alkaloid production was not affected.
