Abstract
A reproducible method of assay for the determination of emetine and cephaeline in Ipecacuanha root is described. The method is based on thin layer chromatography followed by quantitative elution of the separated alkaloids and the estimation of the eluates spectrophotometrically. The results indicate that such method is more accurate than the commonly employed methods of assay.
