Abstract
After a color reaction with vanillin and sulfuric acid, the molar absorbances at absorption maximum of 544 nm of ginsenoside–Rb1 and –Rd were identical to that of panaxadiol, their corresponding artifact sapogenin. The molar absorbance at 542 nm of ginsenoside–Rg 1 was identical to that of panaxatriol. The color reaction was applied to the estimation of saponin content of several saponin preparations extracted from the root of Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer.
