Abstract
The analysis of senna pods and senna leaves has been usually based on the content of total anthrachinon derivatives. We are proposing a method which enables the quantitative determination of the main active principles, sennosides A and B. For the calculation we have determined experimentally a conversion factor relating to the two sennosides. For the determination of this factor we have choosen a ratio of these two glycosides to each other which, according to our opinion, comes closest to the natural situation occuring in the plant.
