Abstract

The drug Ficus carica L. was first dried and then extracted with carbon tetrachloride. Purification of the extract was done by steam distillation and water distillate extracted with chloroform. After evaporation of chloroform, the remaining was purified in hot ethanol and by sublimation under reduced pressure.

The separation of psoralen and bergapten from their mixture was done by preparative gas chromatography.

Identification of two substances was done by various methods: elementary analysis, determination of melting points, thin-layer chromatography, gas-liquid chromatography, UV–, IR– and NMR–spectrums.
