Abstract

Review of work carried out on the three well known species of genus Mimusops support the chemotaxonomic inter-genus and intra–genus relationship among the plants of Sapotaceae family. It is interesting to note that the fruit pulps of Mimusops hexandra and Mimusops manilkara show the presence of the fatty acid esters of common triterpene alcohols while that of M. elegeni yields the free triterpenoids. Identical constituents are present in the seed coat and kernel of the three species.
