Summary

A case of circular break of the Menghini-needle - rare complication of percutaneous liver biopsy - is reported and its mechanism is discussed. The incident was due to strong inspiration of the patient. It was possible to simulate the mechanism of breaking experimentally. To prevent such events the authors suggest to use a more elastic material or to thicken the wall of the Menghini-needle.
