Summary

Using the oesophago-gastroscope made by the firm of ACMI (Wappler International, Munich) and the duodenoscope DSF made by the firm of of Olympus, Hamburg, 37 duodenoscopic studies were carried out. In the case of the latter instrument, the studies were generally combined with a jejunoscopic examination. A number of duodenal ulcers were demonstrated, of which some could not be established by roentgenological means, and the papilla of Vater visualized. This new examination method opens up a diagnostically extremely important sector of the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, the biliary system and the pancreas become diagnostically accessible in a way previously impossible.
