Summary
Case report of a methylcellulose foreign body simulating esophageal carcinoma on X-ray examination. Esophagoscopic extraction of the friable material failed as did suction. The foreign body was finally pushed into the stomach with a fibergastroscope. Re-evaluation of the esophagus by esophagoscopy and radiology revealed no organic cause for the obstruction.
