Endoscopical Observations on Gastric Ulcers in Teenagers
Publication History
Publication Date:
08 December 2008 (online)
Summary
On 21 cases (17 males and 4 females) of gastric ulcers in teenagers diagnosed radiologically and endoscopically, we investigated their endoscopical findings and clinical features.
We have recognized that gastric ulcers in younger patients show more acute features than those in adults, that is, gastric ulcers in teenagers are multiple (62%), irregular in shape (57%), and asymmetrical in arrangement (69%). Compared with chronic ulcers in adults, they heal more rapidly without marked scar formation, i. e. 16 cases healed within 2 months. So, ulcers in teenagers may give us important clues to the problems of chronicity and intractability of gastric ulcers.
