Summary

In the course of wilting of peppermint leaves variations were noticed in essential oil, protein, soluble nitrogen, and free amino acids. The increase of essential oil in wilting leaves of Mentha piperita is caused by leucin catabolism probably: After l–leucin–14C(U) incorporation into peppermint leaves and following wilting, the essential oil was radioactive labelled much more than oil of non–wilted leaves.
