Abstract

A water–soluble extractive obtained from the roots of Momordica cabrei (Cogn.) C.Jeffrey (syn. Dimorphochlamys mannii Hook, f.) has been found to cause an intense spasm when administered to pregnant and non–pregnant rat uterine tissue, in vitro. The active principle appears to be related to the well–known cucurbit glycosides.
