A CHEMICAL STUDY OF THE LEAVES OF CLERODENDRON INERME

Abstract

A watery soluble bitter principle, alkaloidal in nature was isolated from the leaves of Clerodendron inerme. The unsaponifiable fraction of the fat afforded some sterols, one of them is a mixture of two isomers of C₂₇H₄₆O and which indicates the probable presence of cholesterol. An aliphatic alcohol C₁₅H₃₂O and an alphatic ketone C₂₄H₄₈O were also isolated. Preparative chromatography was used for the isolation of alkaloidal constituents. Glucose, fructose and sucrose were indentified to be present in the leaves of the plant as free sugars.

Zusammenfassung

Aus den Blättern von Clerodendron inerme wurde ein wasserlösliches, bitteres Prinzip mit Alkaloideigenschaften isoliert. Aus der Fraktion der Unverseifbaren des Fettes wurden einige Sterole (u. a. wahrscheinlich Cholesterol), ein aliphatischer Alkohol C₁₅H₃₂O und ein aliphatisches Keton C₂₄H₄₈O isoliert. Glukose, Fruktose und Sucrose wurden als freie Zucker in den Blättern identifiziert.
