PHENOLIC COMPONENTS OF MANGIFERA INDICA (PART IV)

Summary

The leaves of Mangifera indica were subjected to extraction with ethyl alcohol and the ethanol extract was then fractionated on a polyamide column into five fractions.

Through further fractionation on polyamide and cellulose columns and with the aid of paper chromatography, it was possible to isolate and identify sucrose, glucose, fructose, protocatechuic acid, gallic acid, mangiferin, kaempferol, quercetin, astragalin and isoquercitrin, thus proving that both the aglucones kaempferol and quercetin are present in the free state along with their glucosides.

Zusammenfassung

Blätter von Mangifera indica wurden mit Äthanol extrahiert, der Extrakt mittels einer Polyamidsäule in 5 Fraktionen zerlegt. Durch weitere Fraktionierung durch Polyamid– und Cellulose–Säulen und mittels Papierchromatographie wurden identifizierte Sucrose, Glukose, Fruktose, Protocatechusäure, Gallussäure, Mangiferin, Kämpferoi, Quercetin, Astragalin und Isoquercitrin. Die Aglukone Kämpferoi und Quercetin liegen sowohl frei als auch glykosidisch vor.
