QUANTITATIVE DETERMINATION OF EMETINE AND CEPHAËLINE IN IPECACUANHA ROOT AND ITS PREPARATIONS

Summary

A reproducible method for the determination of emetine and cephaëline in Ipecacuanha Root and its preparations using thin–layer chromatography is described. The results obtained are in close agreement with titrimetric determinations of the total alkaloid of the samples investigated. The method described is less laborious than other procedures commonly used for the determination of ipecacuanha alkaloids.

Zusammenfassung

Für die Bestimmung von Emetin und Cephaelin in Radix Ipecacuanhae und deren Zubereitungen wird eine reproduzierbare dünnschichtchromatographische Methode beschrieben. Die damit erhaltenen Ergebnisse stimmen gut mit den titrimetrischen Bestimmungen des Gesamtalkaloidgehaltes überein. Die DC–Methode ist weniger zeitaufwendig als die sonst üblichen.
