Summary
The saturated and unsaturated fatty acids of the oils of eight of the most common Egyptain Plantago species were determined. Gas–liquid chromatography as well as the permanganate oxidation and spectrophotometric techniques were applied in the study of the fatty acids. The results, obtained, revealed certain qualitative differences.
The study of the unsaponifiahle matter revealed the presence of β–sitosterol, stigmasterol and campesterol, as confirmed by gas–liquid chromatography and reactive thin layer techniques.
