TANNINS AND POLYPHENOLICS OF THE LEAVES OF MYRTUS COMMUNIS

Summary

The leaves of M. communis, containing 14.06 % tannins, were successively extracted with ethyl acetate, methanol and water. The methanol extract (19.41 % of the leaf material) was fractionated by column chromatography, whereby gallic acid, myricetin, myricitrin and ellagic acid were isolated. In addition, the presence of 3,6–digalloyl glucose was indicated by means of paper chromatography.

Zusammenfassung

Die 14 % Gerbstoffe enthaltenden Blätter von Myrtus communis wurden nacheinander mit Äthylacetat, Methanol und Wasser extrahiert. Der Methanolextrakt (19,4 % des Blattgewichtes) wurde säulenchromatographisch fraktioniert und so Gallussäure, Myricetin, Myricitrin und Ellagsäure isoliert. Außerdem wurde papierchromatographisch 3,6–Digalloylglucose nachgewiesen.
