Summary

  1. The anti–small–pox effect of the seeds of Musa superba was investigated by the method of bioassay in rabbits, used for the standardization of the potency of small pox vaccine.

  2. The objective criteria used are the local reaction and temperature in the test animals as compared with the controls.

  3. It was not possible to demonstrate a statistically significant effect of the seed of M. superba on the basis of the objective criteria of temperature and local reaction.

  4. Further work, by other suitable methods, including clinical, is necessary.

Zusammenfassung

Die Samen von Musa superba wurden an Kaninchen auf eine eventuelle Wirksamkeit gegen Pocken biologisch getestet. Unter den gewählten Bedingungen ließ sich kein statistisch signifikanter Effekt feststellen.
