Summary

The results of these experiments done on dogs to investigate the effects of Glycyrrhiza extract can be summarized as follows:

  1. The extract produced inhibition of the intestinal movements. It was shown that this action was anti–cholinergic as it blocked the stimulatory effect of acetylcholine.

  2. It had an anthelmintic influence upon taenia worms, while ascaris did not respond to the extract.

  3. It caused relaxation of the uterine musculature of both pregnant and non–pregnant bitches.

  4. The frequency of respiration remained unaffected up to 800 mg./kg. body weight.

  5. The extract of the plant had a slight hypotensive effect which was temporary.

  5. Eine leichte, nur zeitweilige, hypotensive Wirkung.
