Summary
The macro– and microscopical characters of ‚Bahera’, the fruits of Terminalia belerica, an indigenous drug and one of the constituents of the popular laxative „Triphala” have been described. The important identifying characters are the presence of large number of unicellular thick walled covering hairs, patches of sclerotic cells especially in the peripheral half of the pulp and the presence of rosette aggregate crystals of calcium oxalate and starch in the ground tissue.
