Abstract
To investigate the catabolic pathways of phenylethylamine alcaloids in plant cell suspension cultures preliminary experiments with (2– 14 C)–tyramine and (2– 14 C)–dopamine were performed. In numerous cell suspension cultures formation of 14 CO2 from both substrates ranging from 0,5–1,2 % (tyramine) to 0,8–2,7 % (dopamine) could be observed. As main metabolites of tyramine p–hydroxyphenylacetic acid and p–hydroxybenzoic acid could be identified whereas evidence for the formation of 3,4–dihydroxyphenylacetic acid from tyramine could also be obtained.
