Behandlungsresultate bei Hirnabszessen

Zusammenfassung

Seit Beginn der operativen und antibiotischen Behandlung der Hirnabszesse ließ sich deren Mortalität etwas senken. Am augenfälligsten ist die Prognose bei den akuten, rasch progredienten Hirnabszessen gebessert worden, die vor der Zeit der Antibiotika als prognostisch infauste Leiden betrachtet wurden. Aber auch die chronischen Hirnabszesse lassen sich heute mit mehr Aussicht auf einen günstigen Ausgang behandeln als noch vor 15 Jahren.

Summary

Based on the pooled data of other investigators and the experiences at the Neurosurgical Clinic of the University of Zurich, the results of treatment of brain abscesses before and since the introduction of antibiotics are compared. Combined treatment by surgery and antibiotics has greatly decreased the death-rate compared with pre-antibiotic results: the greatest improvement has occurred for the acute, rapidly progressive abscesses, which used to have an almost hopeless prognosis.

Resultados del tratamiento en los abscesos cerebrales

Desde que se empezó el tratamiento quirúrgico y antibiótico de los abscesos cerebrales, se ha reducido algo la mortalidad de los mismos. Ha mejorado considerablemente el pronóstico en los abscesos cerebrales agudos y rápidamente progresivos que, antes de la era antibiótica se consideraban como enfermedades de pronóstico infausto. Los abscesos cerebrales crónicos pueden ser tratados también hoy en día con resultados más favorables que hace 15 años.
