Zusammenfassung
Zahlreiche Infektionen verlaufen im Säuglings- und Kindesalter perakut und gehen mit schweren Exsikkosen einher, so daß oft eine auch frühzeitig eingeleitete antibiotische Behandlung nicht mehr wirksam wird. Die Kinder sterben oft an einer durch den protoplasmatischen Kollaps bedingten Hypoxämie. Durch Dauertropfinfusionen und antibiotische Behandlung gelingt es, auch desolat erscheinende Kinder zu retten. Angezeigt erscheint diese Behandlung besonders bei schwersten Formen der Staphylokokkenpneumonien und bei rezidivierenden Durchfallsstörungen dystrophischer und atrophischer Säuglinge, bei manchen Enzephalitisfällen, toxischen Pneumonien, Peritonitis usw. Die Technik der Dauertropfbehandlung sowie die Berechnung der zu verabreichenden Flüssigkeitsmengen und Elektrolytzusammenstellung wird ausführlich geschildert und an Beispielen erläutert. Als Antibiotikum, das intravenös und intramuskulär verabreicht werden kann, hat sich hierbei u. a. das Pyrrolidino-methyl-tetracyclin (Reverin) in einer Dosierung von 8 bis 10 mg/kg Körpergewicht und Tag vorzüglich bewährt. Bei Staphylokokkenpneumonien empfiehlt sich die zusätzliche Verabreichung anderer Antibiotika.
Summary
It is pointed out that numerous infections of infancy and childhood are highly acute and are accompanied by severe dehydration. Even early antibiotic treatment may not be sufficient by itself. Death is often due to hypoxaemia. Continuous intravenous infusions combined with antibiotic treatment make it possible to save even the desperately ill child. Such combined treatment is indicated especially in severe staphylococcal pneumonia, recurrent severe gastro-enteritis of undernourished infants, some instances of encephalitis, toxic pneumonia, and peritonitis. The technique of such intravenous administration and the method of calculating the amounts of fluid and electrolyte solutions to be given are set out in detail and some representative examples cited. Pyrrolidino-methyl-tetracycline (“Reverin” - HOECHST) has proved itself an effective antibiotic for i.m. or i.v. administration in doses of 8—10 mg./Kg. bodyweight/day. In cases of staphylococcal pneumonia other antibiotics should be given as well.

Sobre el tratamiento de las enfermedades infecciosas más graves en la lactancia e infancia con antibióticos e infusiones gota a gota
Gran número de infecciones evolucionan durante la lactancia e infancia con un curso sobreagudo, acompañándose de graves exsicosis, de tal forma que muchas veces, aún instaurando un tratamiento precóz con antibióticos, no resulta ya eficáz. Los niños mueren frecuentemente por la hipoxemia que causa el colapso protoplasmático. Por medio de las infusiones gota a gota y del tratamiento antibiótico es posible salvar a niños que se encontraban ya en estado desesperado. Este tratamiento parece estar indicado especialmente en las formas más graves de neumonías estafilocócicas y en los trastornos diarreicos recidivantes de lactantes distróficos y atrofícos, así como en algunos casos de encefalitis, neumonías tóxicas, peritonitis, etc. Se describe detalladamente y se aclara con ejemplos la técnica del tratamiento gota a gota, así como el cálculo de las cantidades de líquido y asociación electrolítica a suministrar. La pirrolidin-metil-tetraciclina (reverin), a dosis de 8—10 mg. diarios por kg. de peso, se ha acreditado, entre otros, como un excelente antibiótico, pudiéndose administrar tanto por vía intravenosa como intramuscular. En las neumonías estafilocócicas se recomienda la administración conjunta de otros antibióticos.
