Zusammenfassung

48% aller Isolate von Providencia stuartii innerhalb eines Jahres stammten aus dem Urin katheterisierter, weitere 37% aus dem Respirationstrakt intubierter Patienten. Die Häufigkeit des Auftretens von Providencia stuartii korrelierte mit der Dauer iatrogener Maßnahmen sowie mit einer vorausgegangenen Antibiotikatherapie. Serologisch ließ sich die pathogenetische Bedeutung dieser Species als Erreger schwerster Hospitalinfektionen nachweisen.

Summary

48% of all isolates of Providencia stuartii obtained within a period of one year, originated from the urine of catheterised patients, whereas another 37% were found in the respiratory tract of patients with intubation. The incidence of Providencia stuartii correlated with the period during which iatrogenic measures had been applied, as well as with a preceding course with antibiotics.
