Auf der Suche nach einer wissenschaftlichen Standortbestimmung ging die Osteopathie im 20. Jahrhundert verschiedene Wege. Dabei lassen sich zwei grundsätzliche Richtungen herausarbeiten: das naturwissenschaftlich orientierte Modell von J. M. Littlejohn und die phänomenologische Herangehensweise der Sutherland Cranial Teaching Foundation (SCTF).

In search of a scientific definition of its position, osteopathy went separate ways in the 20th century. Two basic directions of this process can be worked out: the scientifically oriented model of J.?M. Littlejohn and the phenomenologic approach of the Sutherland Cranial Teaching Foundation (SCTF).

A la recherche d'une place dans le monde scientifique, l'ostéopathie prit des chemins différents au 20e siècle. Il en ressort par là deux directions fondamentales : le modèle orienté sur la science naturelle de J.M. Littlejohn et l'approche singulière de la Sutherland Cranial Teaching Foundation (SCTF).
