Zusammenfassung

Eine der schwierigsten Entscheidungen, die ein Tierarzt zu treffen hat, ist die, wann das Leben eines Tieres beendet werden sollte. Viele dieser Entscheidungen müssen unter hoher Stressbelastung unter meist nicht idealen Bedingungen gefällt werden.

Neben veterinärmedizinischen, ethischen und juristischen Aspekten stellt die Psychologie der jeweiligen Mensch-Tier-Beziehung eine wesentliche und komplizierende Komponente bei der Tötung von Tieren dar. Dies gilt im Besonderen bei der Tötung von Pferden. Diese psychologischen Aspekte müssen bei der Euthanasie und bei der Wahl der Methode berücksichtigt werden

Summary

One of the most difficult decisions a veterinarian has to make is when to end an animal’s life. These decisions must be often made in very stressful and less-than-ideal situations.

Euthanasia is not only characterized by its medical, ethical and legal aspects, but especially in horses, the human-animal-relationship is another essential component of euthanasia, which has to be taken into account, when it comes to the choice of the relevant method.
