Abstract

A practical, straightforward synthesis of several bis(tetronic acid)s from a common precursor, dimethyl l-tartrate, is described. It involves a double Dieckmann condensation using tetrabutylammonium fluoride. The radical scavenging capacities of these compounds are measured.
