Abstract

Isocyanides, dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates, and α,β-unsaturated aldehydes undergo smooth condensation in poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG 400) to afford the corresponding styrylfuran derivatives in good yields. This method provides a convenient route for a wide range of styrylfurans in a one-pot operation via a three-component reaction. The solvent can be recycled and reused for further reactions.
