Summary

Group analysis of homeopathic remedies is a relatively new methodology, linking biologically related substances via their common symptomatology. Relatively few remedies derived from insects are extensively utilised in homeopathy, with most being considered as small remedies. The insect remedies were analysed in terms of rubric size, and based on this, a sample selection was defined using the larger, more well-known remedies. The extraction of common rubrics from the sample group was done using the Radar 9.0 computer software package [1], and data was analysed and confirmed via Encyclopaedia Homoeopathica [2]. The study focused on common sensations, active and passive reactions and compensations of the insect group. The primary sensations extracted were burning and swelling. Active reactions isolated include redness, fever and irritability, which manifests mentally as anger, anxiety, delirium, violence and frenzy. Passive reactions include paralysis, coldness and weakness. Common general symptoms are of a sudden and acute nature and worse for touch. Compensations to reactions include restlessness, impatience and increased sexual desires and activity. Insect remedies tend to compensate for the acute nature of the sensations by adopting a hurried or busy lifestyle of a sarcastic or caustic nature. Furthermore, the majority of remedies seem to belong to the tubercular miasm, and pathological tendencies of the insect remedies are associated with inflammatory conditions. The results of the study were found to support the group analysis methodology as outlined by Dr. Rajan Sankaran [3].
